SPINAL ANATOMY & BIOMECHANICS

This is an informative and engaging workshop, perfect for yoga teachers, movement practitioners or anyone who has a spine and interested to tap into its real potential.

It covers:

  • An embodied, experiential inquiry to understand the structure and function of the spin

  • An embodied, experiential inquiry to understand your breath and how it affects your spinal health

  • A way to move intelligently with more awareness and control especially in the yoga practice

  • Discover your movement blindspots and change your habitual movement patterns in relation to your spine

  • Learn how we relate to pain, why we hurt when we hurt and how to overcome it

  • modification and techniques for certain spinal pathologies

  • Misinformed cues and pose alignments that can exacerbate spinal issues and health

Breathing into the Spine
Dive deep into the science and anatomy of breathing, it’s function and capacity to manage your postural and emotional help. The spine is intimately connected with your respiratory diaphragm and understanding the symbiotic relationship and how to harness its potential can significantly improve your movement, posture and manage back pain. This 2.5 hour workshop is structured as part lecture, part experiential learning to take your understanding of pranayama beyond it being a conscious breath regulation exercise practised in the ancient tradition of Yoga. Different techniques that span from various traditions will be used to expand your lung capacity and harness the power of breath in down regulating your stress response, affect your over sense of embodiment, improve your articulations and expressions of health in your spine.

Liberating the Spine
This workshop takes on an integrated approach to spinal anatomy, health and understanding of spinal articulation who you move or practice yoga. Navigate the architecture of the spine in a brief lecture followed by an experiential learning practice to hep you enhance your spinal mobility without pain and injury. Learn how misinformed asana alignment and techniques can exacerbate existing spinal issues. During the workshop, we will look at more common spinal pathologies and poses practice. Learn various techniques to effectively address postural imbalances and manage back pain. This 2.5hr workshop will also touch on your embryological beginnings to help you understand the sanctity of the spine expanding your concept of health beyond physiological factors.

Although yoga and complementary health was always in my family, I only picked up yoga as teenager during a period of spiritual seeking. After my mom’s passing, I found myself heart broken and spiritually lost. Initially, in order to work with grief, I sought out Buddhism and meditation which helped for many years but I soon realised I needed something more - a practical (for lack of a better word), physical and grounding practice that could support my existing framework and philosophies. From there, my understanding of health and wellness began to expand and it was through a holistic practice, I learned how to found solace, ease and balance to move through the different seasons of life. On top of Yoga, I am a certified sound therapist and trained with my beloved teacher, Gunjan Trivedi from Ahmedabad, India. I use sound to create profound spaces of rest and deep healing to help clients to overcome challenges such as anxiety, depression, fear, stress, insomnia, high blood pressure, hyper tension and chronic pain. In recent years, my fascination for the human body and movement led me down some interesting paths and trainings such as Thai Massage, Reiki, STOTT Pilates, Anatomy Trains by Tom Myers, and now I am in the midst of completing my Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Practitioner Training with Body Intelligence. I infuse all my learnings into the broader practice of yoga and therapy to help people cultivate the art of deep presence and delve into the deeper connections of body and mind. I am deeply passionate about learning, sharing and facilitating transformational experiences relating to the self and health. I am currently based in Singapore but I travel around the world to share my love for the practice.
