MONTHLY YOGA CONVERSATIONS TO STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY

One of the greatest joys of practicing yoga is the access to a community of like-minded people who endeavor towards greater health, wellness, and quality interactions. However, too often, we go into a yoga class, do our practice, and once it’s over, we roll our mats and leave. In doing so, we leave behind the opportunity for new meaningful interactions, and the potential for major life shifts. We believe that it’s not just the practice on the mat that brings positive benefits to one’s life, but the relationships we build within the community that helps us grow. Our monthly yoga and brunch talks are important platforms that encourages each person bring their own experiences to the table.

 

EVENT AGENDA

In partnership with One Faber Group, the event will take place at Arbora Hilltop Garden & Bistro, perched atop the lush greenery of Mount Faber Park. It will begin with a one-hour yoga practice, led by Kathy Gabriel. Following the yoga class, participants will be divided into small groups of 5 to have discussions over an exclusive healthy brunch set at the alfresco dining area surrounded by majestic views of the rainforest hillside. Each group will receive a set of discussion prompts to guide you in your sharing circles.

9.30 – 10.30 am – Yoga Practice

10.30 – 11.00 am – Fresh Juice & Rest

11.00 am onwards – Brunch & Chat

 
OPEN, MULTI-LEVEL PRACTICE

This is a 1hr practice suitable for all levels of practitioners. This class will grounded in anatomy, biomechanics, breathwork, somatic movement and embodied wisdom. Move through a series of postures and transitions from a multitude of traditions that encourage fluid dynamics and health throughout your whole system.

 
MY YOGA JOURNEY 

This month’s conversation topic will focus on our own personal journey through yoga. To honor the practice beyond its physical nature, we share the stories of our first times, the challenges as well as the infatuations in those early days of practice, what kept us going and why we’re still practicing. For those still dabbling in yoga, this is a great opportunity talk to others about how their yoga practice has evolved over the years. What makes yoga different from other forms of physical exercise and how has its philosophy inched its way into various aspects of our lives? Each table will receive a set of conversation prompts to guide your discussions during the brunch hour. 

 
LOCATION

The event will take place at Arbora Hilltop Garden & Bistro located at Faber Peak. At 100m above sea level, the lush greenery of one of the oldest parks in Singapore will truly allow you to immerse and stay connected to the earth.

    I’m Singaporean by birth, global citizen by lifestyle, having lived in Indonesia, Egypt and India as a child and young adult, and later in the United States, Laos and Myanmar. My spark for yoga began while I was living in Boston in 2003, but my calling to teach grew much later out of the joy that I developed as a teacher’s assistant at the studio that I attended regularly. After completing a teacher training in Bali with Rachel Hull, Anna Smallwood, Emil Wendel, James Newman and Dr. Sujatha Kekada in 2011, I moved to Laos and started a yoga cooperative called Luang Prabang Yoga. Both the yoga cooperative and the immersive retreat programs that I lead under Laos Yoga Retreats have in some ways, put Laos on the map as a destination for yoga. I also co-owned a yoga studio in Myanmar between 2017 and 2019. My partnership with Kathy and Urban Yogis has grown out of a collective purpose to share knowledge and bridge the gap between people of different cultures, languages and belief systems. I trust that when a group of people come together from all walks of life, the opportunity for learning is boundless. Yoga has been an essential platform for these gatherings and for experiences that create more open-minded humans. Today, the biggest influence in my practice and teachings is Edward Clark of Tripsichore Yoga. He reinforces the importance of authenticity in how we express ourselves in movement. Ultimately, this translates to authenticity in life. I’d like to say to people out there, don’t be afraid to find out who you are, and when you find that person, don’t be afraid to be the person that you are!     Although yoga and complementary health was always in my family, I only picked up yoga as teenager during a period of spiritual seeking. After my mom’s passing, I found myself heart broken and spiritually lost. Initially, in order to work with grief, I sought out Buddhism and meditation which helped for many years but I soon realised I needed something more – a practical (for lack of a better word), physical and grounding practice that could support my existing framework and philosophies. From there, my understanding of health and wellness began to expand and it was through a holistic practice, I learned how to found solace, ease and balance to move through the different seasons of life. On top of Yoga, I am a certified sound therapist and trained with my beloved teacher, Gunjan Trivedi from Ahmedabad, India. I use sound to create profound spaces of rest and deep healing to help clients to overcome challenges such as anxiety, depression, fear, stress, insomnia, high blood pressure, hyper tension and chronic pain. In recent years, my fascination for the human body and movement led me down some interesting paths and trainings such as Thai Massage, Reiki, STOTT Pilates, Anatomy Trains by Tom Myers, and now I am in the midst of completing my Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Practitioner Training with Body Intelligence. I infuse all my learnings into the broader practice of yoga and therapy to help people cultivate the art of deep presence and delve into the deeper connections of body and mind. I am deeply passionate about learning, sharing and facilitating transformational experiences relating to the self and health. I am currently based in Singapore but I travel around the world to share my love for the practice.
